Japan exported 943,433 tons of containerized shipments to China, which decreased very minutely from a year earlier and registered the first year-on-year contraction in seven months. On a value scale, on the other hand, exports from Japan to China were valued at \610.9 billion, which soared 23.6% and enjoyed a year-on-year improvement for the seventh consecutive month.
Meanwhile, Japan imported 1,951,650 TEUs from China in the month in question, which rose 7.7% and marked a year-on-year increase for three months in a row. In terms of value, they increased for the first time in two months, swelling 8.9% to $1.069 trillion.
According to indices unveiled by Drewry Shipping Consultants Ltd., freight rates from Yokohama to Shanghai were US$370 per TEU, which went down 7.5% and suffered the first year-on-year decline in 13 months. In contrast, those from Shanghai to Yokohama were $650 per TEU, which climbed 10.2% and recorded a year-on-year inflation for five straight months.
